Dr. Paul Bailey brings a deeply patient-centered approach to surgical care, grounded in both clinical excellence and compassion. His commitment to his patients was recognized early in his training when he received the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award from Albert Einstein Medical College. This honor reflects not just technical skill, but the quality of human connection he brings to medicine.
Dr. Bailey earned his B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Rochester and completed his surgical training through a general surgery residency at Hahnemann University Hospital/Drexel University and chief residency at St. Luke’s University Health Network, followed by a fellowship in bariatric and advanced minimally invasive surgery at Hackensack University Hospital. He is a board-certified general surgeon.
Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Bailey is an active leader in the medical community. He is currently serving as Chief of General Surgery at Ascension St. Vincent’s Southside and as Treasurer of the St. Johns County Medical Society, reflecting his commitment to advancing the standards of surgical care not only for his own patients but also for the broader community he serves.
At the heart of Dr. Bailey’s practice is a belief that patients deserve the least invasive, most effective path to recovery. He specializes in minimally invasive and robotic surgery techniques that consistently deliver faster recovery times, less pain, shorter hospital stays, minimal scarring, and fewer complications. The robotic platform also gives Dr. Bailey enhanced precision and visualization, meaning every patient benefits from greater surgical control and accuracy.
Dr. Bailey provides comprehensive surgical care for a wide range of conditions, including:
- Weight loss surgery (bariatric procedures and revisions)
- Gallbladder removal
- Hernia repair — umbilical, ventral, inguinal, incisional, and complex hernias, including component separation
- Foregut and acid reflux surgery
- Skin procedures — Lipoma and cyst removal, hidradenitis
- Emergency surgery
For patients seeking support beyond the operating room, Dr. Bailey also offers medical weight loss counseling and medication management, meeting patients wherever they are on their health journey.
Outside of his practice, Dr. Bailey enjoys cooking, gaming, and outdoor adventures with his wife, children, and rescue dog, Samson.
